Sonoma County Movie Locations
In Sonoma County, we know we have it all—beaches, rolling farmlands, orchards, charming towns where (if you squint a bit) you could be in 1950 (or 1850), Victorian farmhouses, lavish mansions, suburban tract homes, vineyards, hey, we even have a few Tuscan courtyards. Hollywood knows it, too.

This movie was also rumoured to have been  filmed in Sonoma County-does anyone know if that is true? Update: The Sonoma County Film Commsion says that it was filmed on private property in Sebastopol, Georgetown, and Sweetwater Springs Mine. Ann, one of SOTC’s readers, told me that in fact, most of this movie was filmed at the Renaissance Faire at Black Point Forest in Marin County (before the Forest became a housing development and golf course). She and her husband would know; they own the movie. She says that many of their friends were in the movie, because the filmmakers recruited Faire participants as extras. Were you an extra? Recognize anyone? Let us know!

The film was originally to be shot at Santa Rosa High School, but after the school board read the script they objected to the violent nature and production was moved to Healdsburg —hence the “No thanks at all to…’”credit at the end of the movie. More trivia? To keep Drew Barrymore looking sad and scared, director Wes Craven kept telling her stories about animal cruelty.
