Haunted Hotel Week on Groupon
Groupon has some deals on Haunted Hotels in the US for Halloween week…well, ok, I think the deals are good to buy Halloween week; you’ll have to visit another time. Anyway, if you like to be spooked where you sleep, they’ve got great deals on several haunted hotels.
The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Colorado (the site of Stephen King’s The Shining) has staff reports about hearing distinct sounds of children playing when there aren’t any around, about liquor bottles inexplicably flying off the shelves, and of piano keys moving without assistance from anything or anyone else. When bottles aren’t flying, it’s a beautiful, grand old hotel near Rocky Mountain National Park. The Stanley Hotel deal on offer is one night at the hotel and a ghost tour for $99 (a $224 value).
Captain Grant’s Inn in Preston, Connecticut , built in 1754, has had guest reports of loud knocking, multiple sightings of mysterious ghostly apparitions of a woman and her two children, and faint, disembodied child-like voices. The Captain Grants’s Inn Deal is $139 for a two-night stay and ghost hunting lesson (a $278 value).
Other, possibly haunted, hotel deals include: [Read more →]

Four Coastal California Hostels Offer Winter Weekday Specials
Four hostels on the California coast are offering Winter Weekday Specials through February 28, 2011. Stay two nights in a shared dorm room and get the third night free, Sunday through Thursday nights (excluding holidays). American families tend to underestimate hostels. Last winter my family stayed in a family room at Pigeon Point Lighthouse—with gorgeous views under a lighthouse overlooking the Pacific and a hot tub on the cliffs, this hostel just needs queen beds and luxury linens to become a pricey B&B. Even though its a Winter deal, there’s real possibilities, Winter can be so dramatic on the coast, and Pigeon Point is near Ano Nuevo, which has elephant seal tours this time of year. [Read more →]
