There will be 2 naturalist-led family hikes starting at the Environmental Discovery Center at Spring Lake  this  Saturday. The one-hour hikes  will begin at 1 or  3 pm and families can return to the EDC afterward to design leaf cards and seed balls and learn more about plants and native plant use in Sonoma County. These will be easy to moderate hikes. Lowe’s Free Build and Grow Clinics for Kids has two upcoming projects:

• December 3: Caboose (you’ll build the rest in coming weeks)
• December 10: Coal Car

Clinics are free and each participant receives a free apron, goggles, a project themed patch, and a certification of merit upon completion of their project.

Since the term is starting to wind down, it’s time for a good grade reminder: Expedition Island is offering  a free pass for one of their Good Grade Days for Sonoma (and Marin) students in 4th-10th grade who earn a B average or better. The school with the most qualifying report cards—measured as a % of total enrollment—will win a $500 donation towards physical fitness or outdoor programs.

Kids can turn in a copy of their  B average (or better) report card in person to Expedition Island or mail it to 755 Southpoint Blvd Suite 101A, Petaluma, CA 94954. Limit of one report card per child. Call (707) 780-4222 for more info.

Volunteer pilots, with the Young Eagles program, are offering Sonoma County kids age  8 to 17 a free flight in a small plane over Sonoma County. To schedule a flight call Ray Shipway at (707) 584-9682

The Rohnert Park Community Center is holding a Kids Night Out event  on Friday November 18th for  kids ages 4 to 10.  The evening’s theme is  “Toy Story,” and there will be arts & crafts, games, snacks, and a movie.
