Cheap Eats: Real Doner

This is a shameless lift. My Cheaps Eats posts have been languishing (guess who hasn’t eaten out recently?) But I just came across a review of Real Doner (speciality: cheap Mediterranean food) on Heather Irwin’s BiteClub blog. I haven’t been there yet, but it has just moved  top of my list.  Heather’s advice is always good. Cigarette Borek and Bulbul Yuvasi, here I come! (to read the full review go here.

Cheap Eats: Pizza and Pinot at Estate in Sonoma

estate-restaraunt-porch
Sondra Bernstein (who also owns The Girl and the Fig in Sonoma and The Fig Café in Glen Ellen) opened Estate in Sonoma in a recession. A daring move for any restaurateur, but good news for frugal customers. The regular menu isn’t cheap (entrees are roughly $10-$25 each) but in order to attract a local clientele during hard times, she began a Pizza and Pinot promotion—a 12″ pizza and a glass or Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio for $10 (available only in the bar, porch and patio lounge). Cheap Eats in Petaluma: Tapas Tuesdays

cheap eats petaluma
If you want the atmosphere of a nice restaurant (no eating on Styrofoam) but your budget is more along the lines of fast food, you might want to try Sugo Trattoria’s Tapas Tuesdays. They have a revolving menu of tapas (Spanish small plates) and a  selection of 10 house wines that go for $5 each g lass on Tuesdays from 5 pm to 9 pm. We ordered 2 tapas and a glass of wine each, and shared.

  • death warrant dvd
  • It’s not supercheap ($15 and tip each), but we were stuffed, and thoroughly enjoyed it (we could have ordered three tapas between the two of us and been satisfied).  We ordered salmon cake (wonderful), bruschetta (which came with 3 different varieties-you get to chose which three), Pesto pizzetta with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes, and housemade chips with melted gorgonzola & rosemary. The service was great.
