Free Tax Help for Sonoma County Residents

In 2008, 24 million taxpayers applied for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program, receiving an average EITC tax refund of about $2,000. (Families with two or more kids may qualify for more than $5000.) But about 25% of taxpayers who are eligible for the earned income credit fail to claim it, according to the IRS.

IRS-Certified Tax Assistants will be available at several locations in Santa Rosa, Guerneville, and Petaluma starting Jan. 16, 2010 to help you determine if you qualify (there is no charge for the assistance).  If your household income was less than $50,000, you may qualify, even if you don’t owe any taxes this year (you will have to file to receive the refund). To schedule an appointment, call 2-1-1.
