Do you have unclaimed property?

Do you have money in forgotten accounts? It happens easier than you may think. An old utility or phone deposit, an account you thought you closed, a dividend that never quite made it to you…banks and other institutions often have money that sits forgotten in accounts for years. “Escheat” laws were made to keep the institutions from quietly hanging on to the money, hoping no one would remember it. In effect, each state now has a giant lost and found for inactive accounts. It’s worth doing a search to see if you have any money languishing.  I found a telephone deposit from my college years.
