Ten free things to do in Windsor
There are hundreds of great free and cheap things to do in Sonoma County. The embarrassment of riches makes almost hard to chose. Windsor does a great job of creating fun community events centering around the Town Green.
Here’ s a sampler of ten free things to do in Windsor (not all on the Green):
Munch your way through the Farmers Market on the Green (Sundays 10 am to 1pm and Thursday evenings 5- 8 p in summer)
- Applaud Shakespeare on the Green (Specific summer weekends, this year in July, they pass the hat for donations, but there is no charge).
- Play Bocce Ball at Vintage Oaks Park (1201 Mitchell Lane) or Hiram Lewis Park (9680 Brooks Road S. Hiram has public restrooms).
- Go hiking at Foothill Park ($6 to park in the lot).
- Take a bike ride down very scenic and not so hilly Starr Road.
- Go geocaching. There are 300 caches waiting for discovery within a 10 mile radius of the Town Green).
Bring a baggie of popcorn and a blanket and enjoy the free kids movies on the Green (Tuesdays in Summer, starting 15 minutes after sunset).
- Take in the free Wine Tasting every night between 5-6 at the GreenGrocer.
- Take your dog to the Dog Park at Pleasant Oak Park (302 Sugar Maple Lane).
- Listen to live music at the Farmers Market in the Town Green from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursdays in Summer.

Wow! Sonoma County attracted me so much throughout my entire life that I’ll be moving to Windsor in a couple of weeks. (anyone know of any teaching openings?) I had no idea, however, that so much cool stuff goes on there. Hiking, dogs, every event on the Green. This place has it all!
